This week’s featured cover is from SILVER: Acheron (A River of Pain) by Keira Michelle Telford.
Keira Michelle Telford says:
“I design all of my book covers myself, mostly because I’m a bit of a control freak! Branding was really important to me when making the cover for SILVER: Acheron (A River of Pain) because it’s the first in a series of ten. I want people to be able to recognize that all the books in the series are connected in some way, just by eyeballing them. For that reason, I chose to use my main character’s logo as the center image. Her name is Ella Cross, and the symbol is an ancient, Celtic warrior shield pattern (also called an ella cross in some Scandinavian cultures).
Surrounding the Ella Cross logo is a swirl of water. The book’s title, Acheron, is taken from the name of a river which Virgil and Dante must traverse in order to get to Hell in the novel The Divine Comedy. In the context of my book, the Ella Cross logo surrounded by the water of Acheron symbolizes her descent into her own personal Hell — her imprisonment after being convicted of treason. By keeping the rest of the cover plain black, I was hoping to keep the focus on the logo. Branding, branding, branding! :)”
2342 CE Dishonorably discharged from the Hunter Division and banished for crimes she did not commit, Silver struggles to come to terms with her new prison-like surroundings: a segregated area of the city called the Fringe District, populated by murderers, thieves and rapists. They need an executioner.
SILVER: Acheron is the first book (a 40,000 word novella) in a 10-book series featuring the character of Ella ‘Silver’ Cross. Set more than 300yrs in the future, the Silver Series takes place in a post-apocalyptic, dystopian world where humans are a species on the brink of extinction. No longer at the top of the food chain, humans are preyed upon by the Chimera—genetic mutants that outnumber humankind 25:1. And Silver is a Hunter—the best in the city. I love it! Striking design. And I'm partial to black backgrounds on covers myself. ;)
