Featured Event: Fourth Wall Fridays with the Cabin Goddess

Each week we’re inviting members of The Indie Exchange to share their one off or regular events or features and tell us more about them. This week Kriss Morton fills us in on Fourth Wall Fridays.

Cabin Goddess: Fourth Wall Friday

CABIN GODDESS website – “SPECIAL GUEST POST & AUTHOR HIGHLIGHT – Allow yourself as an author to open up a new avenue of sharing your AUTHOR PERSONA & WORLD BUILD in a unique and creative fashion.. Just take a chance, write fluidly and from within that “place” you hangout at with your muse when you are writing. Walk in the door and sit down, watch your characters, talk to them… this is not a character interview. I call it Fourth-Wall is because it allows you to look out at us, your readers and audience and occasionally say, hey, what can I say, they are fairies/spies/cyborgs/zombies/policemen etc.. or step in and grab a soda at the local store from within your world build.”

Fourth-Wall is a theatre reference, It is the front of the stage, where an actor does not cross, when they do it is called breaching the fourth-wall. Those movies where actors all of a sudden are talking to us and breaking the stride of the story? That is breaching fourth wall. This is kind of flipping it, instead of breaking the fourth-wall in the novel, which would be a character breaking out of the story and doing a typical character interview or guest post that some authors do, you are breaking into their world, breaking bread with them, or having a drink, or whatever the tale is within their world or meeting in-between. Or you can bring your muse aboard and include her. There are lots of tools to doing this, I try to tell the author, treat it like a flash fiction exercise, they can set a timer and go or just write!

So authors, slip the hat on, the one that wakes up the muse (at least one can hope) and become one with everything; book, character, that bottle of whiskey at the table in a bar in your main characters home town.. Let Cabin Goddesses readers eavesdropping, become peeping Toms with all of those living amongst the pages.

Please contact Kriss over at the Cabin if you are interested in being part! Head over to her blog, and peruse the archives. Read some of the amazing earlier Fourth Wall Fridays. Wonder  just what a Fourth-Wall Friday can do for you as an author and just how special it is? She also always includes the authors current work promoted , quite often the rest of their works and an author bio plus all social links.

Cabin Goddess

Cabin Goddess is a book blog ran by Kriss Morton which not only reviews but also shares recipes which go along with the story, her own stories about Alaska where she currently lives in a small cabin on the outskirts of Fairbanks, AK with a wonderful man and an overbearing cat.

Her main focus other than her blog is working on building her current publicity and book tour company, First Rule PR, her freelance PR and as well expanding her collection of poetry which has been published in two different Literary Journals including an Sigma Tau Delta Honor’s Society Collection  at UAF.

Her first open publishing that is not related to acedemia or her blogging content is a whimsical tale of fun based in in Alaska and is full of mystical creatures and delight.

Currently she is working on a cookbook, a post-catalyst somewhat alternate reality novel which is still under-wraps and continues to write poetry daily.

Be it humor, poems, tales of wanderlust, her heart is pure Alaskan and her pocket is always full of snowflakes.

By day a publicity assistant, by night an avid blogger and reader. I'm happiest when I'm surrounded by books and cats, with my husband by my side. Luckily, that's a pretty apt description of most days!
