Katrina Byrd is a graduate of Millsaps College and a three time Mississippi Arts Commission Artist Minigrant Recipient. As of July 1, 2012 Katrina became one of the newest artist on the Mississippi Arts Commission’s Teaching Artist Roster and Performing Artist Roster. Katrina has had many short plays performed and read locally including Dinsmoor’s Last Stand which was performed at a historic ceremony hosted by the city of Ridgeland. Currently Katrina serves as the Center Players’ Playwright in Residence for the 2010-2011 season. Two of Katrina’s short stories, The Night Papa Died and Justice is Blind have been published in Black Magnolias Literary Magazine. Katrina is also a freelance writer with the Jackson Free Press. Her first cover story, I Dream In Color, was published in May and landed her the title Freelancer of the Month. Katrina reads regularly for the Writers’ Spotlight and has been commissioned to write a play for a Pink Tie Gala hosted by Susan G. Komen in honor of Breast Cancer Month. Katrina is also an actress. She was last seen on stage in the Millsaps’ Players’ production of Fabulaiton. Her most memorable roles include Duchess in HATS! The new musical for the rest of your life and Calpurnia in To Kill A Mockingbird. Katrina has also performed with the Chimneville Readers under the direction of James Anderson. Katrina is also a vocalist presently studying with renowned opera singer and voice specialist, Cynthia Stuart. Katrina servers on the board of the Center Players Community Theatre and the ACLU. Just recently Katrina has completed the Teaching Artist requirements. She attended Teaching Artist Workshops hosted by the Mississippi Alliance for Arts Education. Katrina also works with Hearts Against AIDS. Katrina is also a Facebook Promoter. She uses her fan page, blog and a variety of other social networking accounts to promote her work as well as the work of others.
