Each week a member of The Indie Exchange will be sharing their trailer and the story behind it. This week, it’s Debbianne DeRose and the trailer for What I Did On My Midlife Crisis Vacation.
Debbianne DeRose says: “Levity is the buzzword here, and something that’s often lacking when it comes to “spiritual” pursuits. Though I was once an earnest seeker myself, I’ve emerged with the understanding that life on Earth is an elaborate game, and that the best plan of action is to have fun with it. There was no way I was going to make a boring, traditional, interview-style book trailer.
Instead, the video reflects the tone of my writing via campy graphics and thinly veiled satire. A light-hearted cheeky approach makes the subject matter more accessible to people who might otherwise reject it as New Age gobbledegook. The deep thoughts are still in there—but only if you want them.
As an indie author, I think it’s only fitting to co-promote indie musicians. The funky song in this trailer is “Kill It Now” by Sweater!, a talented band out of Portland, Oregon (my former stomping grounds), and the lyrics couldn’t be more fitting as a midlife crisis anthem.”
In this humorous, sassy and oh-so-honest memoir, the author brings you along through a string of compelling adventures, ideologies and introspective moments in hot pursuit of magic, miracles, healing, love, and a deeper grasp of the metaphysical nature of reality. In a unique style akin to confessional reporting, she shares with you her keen insights into human behavior as you meet a plethora of colorful characters and occasional charlatans. She sorts out the wheat from the chaff, both within and without, and emerges clear-headed and empowered… with inspiration to spare.
