Each week we’ll be inviting an author to share a peek at their writing space. This week it’s JC Andrijeski, author of the Allie’s War Series.
I have a pretty unique situation with my current writing space, mostly because of where I live, which is in the foothills of the Himalayas, in Himachal Pradesh, India. My room (and my desk) are pretty small, as you can see…but out my window, I have a view of the mountains, as well as these golden-brown eagles called “Pariah Kites” floating past my window. I also get the odd monkey strolling by, and sometimes peering into my window to see what I’m doing…that is, when they’re not playing tag back and forth on the roof level with my balcony, or trying to get into the bathroom to wrestle with the wall mirror or pick through our trash.
Despite some of the disadvantages of living in India, I’ve found it an incredibly easy place to write, and so far I’ve written six novels here, although not all at the same desk. This is my favorite place I’ve stayed here so far, because the simplicity makes it easy to focus, and yet I’m still very close to town and a vibrant social setting. Although the town below gets pretty crazy, as it’s a big tourist draw for both Westerners and vacationing Indians, I’m high enough that it’s relatively quiet where I work, despite the echo of honking horns and the ubiquitous dogs that bark and howl well into the night. It’s a nice balance of being in the world and being apart from it, which seems to be the most conducive type of space for me, when it comes to writing.
The most recent novel I finished in this space is the fifth book of my Allie’s War series, Knight: Allie’s War, Book Five, which just came out on June 28th.
Pride and Prejudice meets The Matrix led by a kick-butt heroine and her deadly seer husband ~
